Shawn Smith, the creative force behind Ninja Town & shawnimals.com, based the Ninja Dog design on his dog Remmy. She defied the odds after a dog attack and came back a happier, healthier, and a more Zen-minded dog.

By the way, the word for female ninjas is kunoichi. It was almost unknown outside of Japan until very recently, thanks mostly to anime.
